Men's Health : Facing Erectile Dysfunction

When most people hear erectile dysfunction it is assumed that it’s happening to men above a certain age. This is not the case. More and more we see impotence happening from men in their late 20s all the way through later generations. Although, it is more common and chances increase after the age of 50 we have begun to see it more and more in all ages above what we consider adulthood. It is the most common related sex problem that men not only today but for decades have faced. What erectile dysfunction is, is the inability to keep an erection hard long enough or even at all to do the bodies natural function of performing.

From a traditional Chinese medicine perspective it is the imbalance of yin and yang in the body. When there is an imbalance of these two things throughout a channel it comes to a point where there is not enough qi and blood getting to the area in order to nourish it and provide a free flow of qi. Erectile dysfunction in TCM generally is an effect from imbalance happening with the liver and kidney. The role of the liver in your body is to store blood, where as the kidney is where we store our essence. Our essence is responsible for our reproduction and our blood, as you can imagine, is responsible for nourishing us. When one or both is suffering, impotence has a high likelihood. There are a vast number of reasons that men suffer from this disorder from stress and anxiety, to diseases like diabetes, to diet, to the medication they are taking, and even a good old psych of the mind.

On a medical level, blood flow to the penis can be blocked or limited due to a trauma or nerve damage to the area. In order for an erection to happen chemicals are released in the brain and send signals to the phallus to increase blood flow. There are two chambers that the blood will enter in order for it to become erect. If the chambers are not functioning properly they won’t be able to trap blood long enough for a man to get the action they desire.

A big factor in this condition that most men don’t think about is depression. By addressing their emotions and what’s happening internally on a mental level it can play a big role in reversing the problem. This is the same case with anxiety which usually holds the hand of depression. There are a number of treatments that can kickstart a good erection. First and foremost is addressing ones cardiovascular health. This can include adding more exercise to your regimen or eliminating certain foods from your diet. Erectile dysfunction is nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about, as it’s something that is so common it’s normal. It has been shown that with the combination of acupuncture and herbs that erectile dysfunction has a great turn around rate in return giving men back a healthy and happy sex life.
