Men's Health: A TCM Approach

Many common health issues that men face today can be addressed holistically with acupuncture, herbal medicine, and Qigong exercises, as well as healthy lifestyle choices, and stress reduction.

Generally speaking, health issues related to men can be traced back to an imbalance in Kidney function. When Chinese medicine refers to organ function it’s referencing the duty or responsibilty the organ has in helping the body maintain balance.  If one or more organs fall out of balance, the body sends signals that can be in the form of physical or emotional discomforts. These are serious messages. The good news is, these are early warning signs that come from deep within the body on an energetic level. It’s simply your body trying to communicate its needs.

Some signs of Kidney function imbalance include the following:

  • Lower back or knee pain

  • Anxiety and lack of confidence

  • Prostatitis

  • Impotence

  • Low libido

  • Premature ejaculation

  • Infertility (low sperm count, poor sperm morphology)

The Kidney acts as a powerhouse of reserve energy or Qi. When Kidney energy runs low it simply cannot support the body sufficently.  This is where the wisdom of Chinese medicine comes in. Chinese medicine believes that prevention and balance are the key to a long healthy life. Practices such as acupuncture and Qigong work directly on the energetic level to offer additional support to various organs.  Depending on the health issue, Qigong can be used, with great care, to bring the body back to balance.

Qigong practice is one of the most powerful systems used to bring the body back to a state of well-being. This energy based practice strengthens the body and naturally resolves discomforts. Once learned these movements can be used daily as a preventative routine.
